As Resident Services Director at Curtis Creek Senior Living, I’ve seen how a strong sense of community transforms senior living. It turns a place to stay into a place to truly thrive. Building connections among residents, team members, and the surrounding neighborhood isn’t just helpful — it is essential for well-being, joy, and purpose.
Creating community begins with understanding what makes each resident feel valued and included. It also means designing experiences that spark conversation, laughter, and shared memories. Whether it’s a small group event, a holiday celebration, an Act of Service, or a themed activity, each moment strengthens relationships and helps residents feel like they belong.

From my perspective, every interaction becomes an opportunity to weave the fabric of community. When residents feel connected, they enjoy their days more fully. They also experience the emotional and social benefits that come from genuine human connection.
To me, community in senior living means more than sharing the same space. It represents belonging, connection, and mutual support. It creates a sense of family where residents, staff, and loved ones come together to foster an environment filled with care, respect, and companionship.
Building these connections is essential. Strong relationships enrich daily life and help staff understand each resident’s preferences, personality, and needs. This deeper understanding allows for more personalized care and contributes to a warm, welcoming atmosphere. When genuine connections form, a community becomes a home where residents feel valued and respected.
I strive to create opportunities for residents to engage in ways that feel natural, inclusive, and meaningful. Simple moments often grow into lasting connections.
Our community also stays connected to the surrounding area through four monthly outings. One focuses on dining at a local restaurant, another on shopping. A third outing offers a scenic drive, while the fourth centers on volunteering. These experiences allow residents to explore, give back, and remain active members of the greater community.
One of my favorite programs is our Crafts Club. Residents choose their own projects, and the room always fills with creativity, joy, and camaraderie. It consistently becomes a highlight of the week.
To help new residents feel welcome, our Welcome Committee plays an important role. Each member takes on a specific responsibility — greeting new residents at meals, introducing them during events, or checking in throughout the day. These simple gestures ensure that everyone feels included and at home from day one.
At the heart of our community, connections are everything. Every conversation, shared laugh, and meaningful moment enriches daily life. As Resident Services Director at Curtis Creek Senior Living, I’ve seen how intentional efforts to build these connections turn our building into a true home and create memories residents and families will treasure.

By prioritizing relationships, engagement, and belonging, we do more than plan events — we build a vibrant, supportive community where everyone can thrive. Ultimately, the connections we nurture make all the difference.
