Refreshing the Community

Category: Uncategorized

Author: David Schuring, Plant Operations Director

As spring arrives, our team turns its attention to one of the most visible parts of our community: landscaping. Beautiful grounds do not happen by chance. They come from thoughtful planning, seasonal preparation, and steady attention to detail.

After winter, I take a proactive approach to refreshing our outdoor spaces. My goal is to keep them visually appealing, safe, and enjoyable for residents. As the Plant Operations Director at Curtis Creek Senior Living, I focus on the steps that help our community look its best each spring.

Caring for the Grounds

For our spring refresh, a dedicated team member leads our grounds maintenance efforts. He has cared for the property for many years and knows the grounds well.

Each season begins with a full evaluation of the property. He starts with ongoing leaf removal. From there, he clears dead plants, refreshes mulch beds, and plants seasonal flowers throughout the community.

This year, we also partnered with a tree trimming company to remove seven dead trees. The company also trimmed the remaining trees across the property. This made a significant difference in both appearance and safety.

In addition to removing downed limbs, we worked closely with the tree service to identify hazardous trees. We also trimmed large limbs away from the building.

Recently, John completed mulching all landscape beds. This yearly project made an immediate impact, and residents noticed and appreciated the refreshed look. He also planted flowers in several areas to brighten the property for the season.

Leaf removal begins as early as possible each spring. It continues for several weeks to keep the grounds well maintained. We also completed irrigation startup in partnership with a local nursery.

Looking Ahead

Next season, I plan to further enhance first-impression areas with additional plants. I also want to refresh or fully replace mulch throughout the property.

It is easy to see the finished product, but real success comes from teamwork. Coordination, accountability, and pride help bring each project together. These efforts ensure Curtis Creek Senior Living continues to meet the standards residents expect while setting the tone for the months ahead.
