Every great meal starts with someone who cares.
Behind every breakfast served, every decorated brunch buffet, and every favorite recipe prepared is a team of dedicated culinary professionals who choose to make a difference every single day. While many cooks, servers, and dishwashers could work in traditional restaurants, they have chosen a different path—one where the people they serve become neighbors, friends, and even family.
In this Staff Spotlight, we’re highlighting the incredible individuals who make our dining programs special. Their stories remind us that senior living is about much more than preparing and serving meals—it’s about creating comfort, building relationships, celebrating life’s moments, and making every resident feel at home.
We asked members of our culinary teams to share why they chose senior living and what makes this work so meaningful. Here are their stories.

As Culinary Director at Curtis Creek, I was inspired to work in senior living because of my own family experience. My grandparents lived in a senior living community, and I loved seeing the way they were treated. That care left a lasting impression on me.
Senior living also offers a better work-home balance. As a family man, that matters. It allows me to do meaningful work while still having time for the people I love.
Residents have taught me that fun and joy do not have an age limit. No matter what stage of life someone is in, there is still room to laugh, celebrate, and enjoy the moment.
One favorite tradition is Pride. It is a meaningful time to celebrate residents, team members, and the community. Events like this help create connection, belonging, and shared joy.
Success in culinary in senior living requires flexibility. Each day can bring something new. Needs can change quickly, and a strong culinary team must be ready to adapt.
That ability to adjust is part of caring well for residents. It may mean changing a meal, responding to a request, or finding a way to make someone feel more comfortable. In senior living, those moments matter.
One experience that showed the importance of this work happened at a previous community. A resident on hospice knew they did not have much time left. They asked me to prepare a special meal as their last meal.
That moment was deeply meaningful. It showed me that food can carry comfort, dignity, and love during some of life’s most tender moments. A meal can become a memory that stays with residents, families, and team members.
Every member of our culinary team has a unique story, but they all share one thing in common—a passion for serving others.
Whether they’re preparing a resident’s favorite comfort food, celebrating a birthday, or simply greeting someone with a smile, their work goes far beyond the kitchen. They create moments of joy, foster meaningful relationships, and help make our communities feel like home.
To every cook, server, dishwasher, and culinary leader who chooses senior living over a traditional restaurant, thank you. Your compassion, dedication, and commitment to hospitality make a lasting impact on the lives of our residents every single day.
Together, we’re not just serving meals—we’re serving memories.
